Joyous Green Smoothie

This is pure goodness in a glass! This green smoothie is delicious, nutritious and filling and should bring some joy and happiness to your day.

It is packed with tryptophan-rich foods such as banana and avocado, which help to lift the mood. Healthy fats from the almond butter and flax seeds are also blended in and these also provide some fibre. The spinach provides natural folate and calcium. You should feel well hydrated from drinking this smoothie, from the addition of the electrolytes in the coconut water.

Suitable for all ages. See the nut-free and low-histamine option in the notes below.

Instructions

  • Put all of the ingredients into a blender and whizz until smooth! It usually takes around a minute to blend, depending on the size of the frozen banana chunks.

Notes

  • For those who have histamine intolerance, you can lower the histamine by switching the following: banana for mango, avocado to avocado oil (1 tbsp oil per 40g of avocado), date to 1 teaspoon maple syrup and spinach to kale.
  • Nut-free switch almond butter to tahini (sesame paste) or a drizzle of coconut yoghurt.
  • Stores in the fridge for up to 12 hours. You can freeze the leftovers as an ice lolly.

Per serving. Nutrition content in food is never consistent, so take these estimates with a pinch of salt! Also, our recipes tend to use low-GI carbs and sugars, so these values are not directly comparable with shop-bought UPFs.
