Ingredient: Cauliflower
The mighty cauliflower is an annual plant which is grown for its edible flower head. It is part of the cruciferous vegetable family alongside broccoli, cabbage and kale and has been cultivated for thousands of years. It is believed that they originated in the Mediterranean region, but today, they are grown all over the world, including North America, Europe, and Asia.
Cauliflowers are low-calorie but bursting with nutrients; they are particularly high in vitamins B, C and K, and also contain minerals such as magnesium and potassium.
Cauliflowers are usually mild in taste, slightly sweet with a firm, crunchy texture when raw, however, when cooked, they become tender which make perfect for taking on flavours from other ingredients its cooked with. They can be boiled, roasted, fried and steam, used in stir-fries, soups, stews, and casseroles and can be mashed or pureed as a substitute for potatoes or rice.
