Ingredient: Turkey
Turkey is often overlooked in our weekly meal planning, but it should absolutely be a star ingredient. It is packed with essential nutrients such as zinc, niacin, and vitamins B6 and B12 , which are crucial for the proper functioning of our cells, brain, heart, and immune system. In fact, incorporating turkey into your diet can also contribute to improved mood, as it is a rich source of tryptophan, an amino acid precursor to serotonin, known for its mood-boosting properties.
Despite its reputation for being dry when (over)cooked, turkey is a high-protein, low-cholesterol meat that can be easily incorporated into various dishes, such as Bolognaise or chili con carne. Turkey burgers are delicious, and a turkey stir-fry makes for a quick and easy supper, turkey soup is incredibly comforting and my turkey kofta recipe is a perfect example of just how versatile turkey can be.
It’s time to re-think turkey and make it a staple in your weekly meal plans, it’s not just for Christmas at all – it’s a nutritious and delicious option to enjoy all year round.
